Icon Nano P1 Controller Remote Control

Hi, i have purchased the Icon Nano P1 controller. Unfortunately it uses the Mackie Protocol so is limited does not support following track channel when chosen manually in Cubase. Before i send this back is there any way to have this work with the new Remote Control system available in Cubase 12 onwards?
This is a real shame as the touch buttons make this controller quite powerful. However the above issue and also my other gripe, the touch butto s are not bright enough. I could forgive this if the follow channel would work.

We had users making MIDI Remote scripts for other Icon controllers. So I would assume that it is possible to also run the Nano P1 through MIDI Remote.
However, I could not find a script so far. Since it is only a 1 channel system maybe you can use the graphical editor inside Cubase to create a MIDI Remote surface yourself?

Hmm. Interesting. I decided just for the hell of it to try again with remote scripts and this time i was able to program using remote control.
I quickly tried the fader for volume. As is the same with other controllers two controls sgiw up when you move the fader. One is for the initial touch and the other for movement. I find deleting the touch control works best. So added volume for currently selected track and what do you know it works. Opened mix console and randomly chose channels and picks up and works everytime. There is a problem where a lot of the buttons like zoom are not recognised in remote but unsure if these can keep there original commands and work with remote. Another intersting thing is that the touch buttons also show up in remote. Will keep this another week see what i can get going. And see if i can work with the dim touch buttons.

Hi Maxx
Very interested to find out how you’re getting on with the Nano P1 or whether you sent it back?
Any opinions, hints and tips would be most welcome
Thanks in advance…

Hi, i actually sent it back in the end. Two main reasons were the touch buttons were not bright enough, i simply could not see the text. Note that in a dimmroom this may not be an issue. The second thing was the feel of the buttons. The smaller ones not so bad but bigger ones have same size actuator under them and unless you hit the button close to centre the side of the button would press unevenly. The button still worked but it was not a nice feel. I still think for the money its an ok bit of kit. However i noticed prices had gone up considerably. I paid £250 and just seen them at £320. At that prices there are better options, however the touch buttons are a good feature if you can see them. I would suggest SSL UF1 if you can fet away with a single fader. Ive looked at a lot of controllers and inthink ifni purchased anything other than the Softube MKIII controllers i would regret it. Its just a hobby for me so once i have spend a bit money on the house i willmprobs grab them. Yes very expensive but if you’re going to go downnthe route of controllers youve got to be 100% happy with them because they are a luxury not a necessity for me. Ive very hard to please when spending my hard earned money.

Hi Maax
Thanks for the reply; sorry to hear you sent it back, but, like you, music production is a hobby for me so spending MORE money on something means it needs to be spot on! Appreciate your opinion on the buttons etc. so looks like I will have to go for a looong drive to get to a shop that has one in stock to play with “in the flesh”! :frowning:
