I'm LOVING the new D5!

… or just restore from their backup.

Or we can use the same freely distributable component installer for both packages and eliminate the need to ever have to do damage control?

MM’s own font installer includes all the legacy Finale fonts, which non-Finale users won’t want. It also installs SMuFL metadata files for all the text fonts, which means that “Finale Jazz Text” shows up in Dorico’s Music Fonts dialog, even though it’s not a music font.

Dorico users will likely have to spend some time removing extraneous files if they use the MM font installer.

MakeMusic’s own instruction for uninstalling Finale say nothing about removing the fonts: they just give you a list of folders and files to delete, which does not include the font folder. There is no Uninstaller script (on Mac at least.)

The set of “Dorico users who might remove Finale and its fonts and then need to do a bit of admin” is likely a small fraction of all Dorico users.

I see the bundling as more convenient than having to go looking for a separate installer that makes more ‘mess’!

However, your warning is well-taken and useful for anyone in that predicament, searching for info.

Best,

EDIT: Have a nice day
