I'm unable to change clef

Hi, I have been unable to change clef. When I click on the clef button on the right, I get a fly out box but it’s empty.

I’m using elements trial version on a Mac M4 mini with the latest OS.

I’d appreciate your help. Many thanks.

Welcome to the forum, @GeorgeGoodnight

There are two different displays for the right panel: Popovers or Panels. I guess you’re in the Popovers one.

So, when you click on the clef, you get the Clefs Popover (that you can also invoke by typing Shift+C).

You can either click the Panels icon (palette) above the Popovers one (keyboard), then click the clef, and you’ll see the clefs in the right panel,

or use the popover (for example type F and Enter, you’ll get a bass clef…)

Hi, thanks for the welcome and for responding.

I’m definitely in Panels mode. As you can see in the screen shot, the panel is empty. It was as per your shot when I was setting the project up.

It’d be great to get to the bottom of this. The fact it’s a trial version shouldn’t matter, I’m guessing?

Thanks again.

Welcome @GeorgeGoodnight!

I wonder… is it possible that the colors of the font were somehow changed? There appears to be the same amount of space even though no clefs appear. (Something like this happened to me when creating a playing technique with a specific color — it became very difficult to see.)

Can you try two things? First, try using the popover method to see if you can actually input a clef. (Note that if it’s the wrong color it may be hard to see on the staff although it may be easier to see if you can somehow select it.) Second, in the panel mode, can you point to where a clef should be and select one? (Use @charles_piano 's image as a guide.) Do you get a clef then? (Again, be aware it might be the wrong color – like white on a white background.)

A third thing you might try is to close all of your apps and reboot! (Maybe the first thing to try!) We never think to do this but sometimes the system needs to re-initialize!

If not, then I might assume that something went wrong with the install and you might need a re-install.

Thanks Jim. I restarted the app and the clefs are showing as they should.

In fact when they weren’t showing, if I hovered over various positions within the clef box, I’d get tag saying what the clefs were.

Thanks for your help, the welcome and the quick response.
