iMac plus Cubase 6 performance question.

Hello all,

I’ve been using cubase 6 on my iMac for a couple months and I’m having a blast creating/learning.
I’m just a hobbyist so please excuse me if I don’t use the proper vocabulary to explain my issue.

Here is my dilemma, I hope someone can give me for insight.
Recently I noticed that my CPU Overloads after about 11 midi tracks.
Usually I load halion into the vst rack. Then I route my midi tracks Into that one instance of halion.
Then I assign different sounds to different tracks in halion.
After about 11 tracks that’s it my ASIO Meter starts to peak.

I’m running an iMac it’s the i5 quad core model 12 gigs of ram.
I have a focusrite pro 40 interface.
I’m running 24 bit/44.1khz my Buffer is 196 if I recall correctly or might be 192.

Is the performance I’m getting out of my system normal?
I was hoping to be able to run at least 20 tracks.
Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Try to run HALion on separate instrument tracks rather than the VST Instrument rack. That might help spread the load on your iMac processors.

Or when using the VST Instrument rack, try inserting 4 or 5 instances of HALion, each loaded with 5 or 4 instruments to cover your 20 tracks.

Otherwise bump up your I/O to 256.
