Hi all, I’m having trouble importing audio samples. Recently upgraded from Cubase 5 to Cubase Pro 10.5 and I’ve never seen an issue like this.
Every time I import an audio sample, the file becomes time stretched to about 4x the length that it should be. Shrinking down with ‘sizing applies time stretch’ just makes the sample sound hollow and nothing like what it is supposed to be like.
Musical Mode is also greyed out and unusable in the wave editor.
I know, I know, I’m still living in the past only jumping to Cubase Pro 10.5, but of all of the video tutorials and info pages etc that I’ve seen over time, 10.5 seems to be the most common version that people post about so I just went with it. (even though that could be a bad sign haha)
I’m importing from a Vengeance Sound Pack which I’ve used often in the past and they’re all .wav files.
Another audio sample I’ve tried is a simple bass kickdrum that I cut out of a .flac file in Audacity (it wss just the quickest way of stealing the sample from a track at that moment in time) then saved it as a .wav file and the same result occurs. So that’s 2 different sources I’ve used so far, but I will try some others.
Not sure what their sample rate is but they’re of very good quality.
How do I find out what my project sample rate is? Never had to check that before, only when doing an audio mix down for exporting…
If you import a sample - do you see a dialog popping up which asks you whether or not Cubase should change their format to match the project’s settings? Click yes, in case they don’t match.
In case you don’t see this import dialog go to
Edit/Preferences/Edit/Audio > check the option which opens the import dialog on import.
On another note:
Are you aware that C14 sales are on right now? If you are planning to update - now would be the time.
Coming from Cubase 5 you’d be up for a real treat. It’s amazing what’s possible now. If you are interested, download the trial and see for yourself!
Okay guys, sorry for the slow reply but here’s an update…
I opened a new project and the problem went away (this was my first project since installing Cubase 10.5).
Reco29, thanks for the tip on the Cubase sales… I headed straight over and purchased C14 and it was certainly a very wise decision - the new features are somewhat incredible and I’m going to really enjoy learning and using them!
After installation it was all ready to go and I’ve had no problems or glitches so far, and my first project is coming together nicely!
