This doesn’t just apply to Cubase but to all Steinberg products.
Today I bought another Steinberg instrument (yay!) and wondered why it wasn’t just popping up in my Download Manager - well until I realized that there was a Download Access code in the mail.
I get the appeal of these codes because it can be handy if you’re buying the software for someone else but…isn’t it possible to streamline this a bit more? I sat there waiting and thinking “ah, Steinberg needs to send me a comfirmation mail until it becomes accessible” - which was foolish, had I read my emails more thoroughly.
But nobody can blame me, I am used to this kind of process from third-party sellers, like UVI, Softube and Universal Audio.
Since we are already logged into our Steinberg accounts with the Download Manager app, it should just straight show us all the available purchased products.
Maybe you could add an option before every purchase, where you select the “destination” of your purchase, selectable to:
Download Access Code
MySteinberg Account
In fact, you could improve Download Access code and make it so that we can take a license we already own and turn them back into a Download Access code, for second hand market purposes. As soon as you turned your license into a new Download Access code, your license expires and the person using that code can access his new license (assuming you both have arranged all the proper transactions).
I don’t quite understand. You do realize that Steinberg software can be purchased from places other than the Steinberg shop (FastSpring), correct? If I purchase a license from Sweetwater, for example, how is Steinberg supposed to know until I enter the download access code?
I was just talking about the process of purchasing via the Steinberg site. I understand that you can purchase their Products via other platforms and that’s what the download access code is for. I just don’t understand why we would need it when directly purchasing something via the Steinberg website
Because you are purchasing it through FastSpring, not Steinberg. I’m pretty sure you don’t need to be signed in to your MySteinberg account to make a purchase.
Good point. So Steinberg uses and external service for all sales. Makes sense of course. But afaik Fastspring has an API that lets you integrate it with your online shop. I’ve been purchasing products from a lot of other developers that use Fastspring and they all had a much more streamlined process. So it really just depends on how well you integrate it.
