I’m still very much enjoying using NPPE (4.5.1) with Cinematic Studio Strings. One aspect that has disappointed me, however, is the delayed onset of sustained notes, especially when compared with the precise attack of accented and staccato articulations.
I had hoped that adjusting velocity values might encourage CSS to trigger sustained notes a little earlier, as my understanding is that velocity is used to influence the speed of legato transitions. In my testing, though, this didn’t seem to make any difference.
What has proved effective is adjusting the Start and End Offsets in the Properties panel. By quickly selecting passages (while avoiding notes marked with accents or staccatos) and applying a value of around –15, I’ve found that note attacks become noticeably clearer and more accurate, while still retaining the characteristic pre-note bloom that is one of CSS’s greatest strengths.
I thought I’d share the tip in case others are experiencing similar issues and find it useful.
