Incoherent behaviour of Folders With Group Channel and Visibility Agents

Cubase 15.0.20

MacOS Sequoia 15.6

If Group Channel is enabled on a folder, the visibility agents seem to show incoherent behaviours. Here are the observations:

  1. Folders with Group Channels stay visible despite being empty(with or without tracks with no parts/events within the folder) on selecting Show Tracks with Data between Locators/ at the Cursor Position. Expected behaviour is for this folder to be hidden.

  2. But if Show Tracks with Data is selected, the above mentioned empty Folders with Group Channel is hidden(which is the expected behaviour)

Folder without Group Channels continue to work as expected.

Here’s a capture of a simple project I made to demonstrate this (There are no parts/events outside the locators)

Folder N1 (Contains 1 track with parts)

Folder N2 (Contains 0 tracks)

Folder N3 (Contains 1 track but no parts)

Folder G1 (Contains 1 track with parts)

Folder G2 (Contains 0 tracks)

Folder G3 (Contains 1 track but no parts)

Is there a difference between “N” and “G”?

EDIT: I guess it’s N=no group, G=group.

If there is automation data on the G folders then it makes more sense except for “show data” which seems to fail. I agree it seems odd. Can you show automation tracks as well? (maybe just use show all used automation)

You are right, N=Normal Folders, G=Folders With Group Channel :slightly_smiling_face:

There’s no automation on any tracks as you can see in the screenshot below

I investigated how Group channels (with/without Automation) behave with Visibility Agents. With or without automation, it’s seemingly behaving the inverse of how Folders with Group channel are  . They are visible when “Show Data“ is selected and get hidden for the “within locators/ at Cursor“ options.

So, there’s inconsistency there as well (Attaching a screen grab for the same)

I just checked the behaviour in Cubase 14. Group Channels (with or without) automation get’s hidden on all visibility agents (Show Data/ within locators/ at Cursor). I guess, this logic somehow got broken with the introduction of Folders with Group. Here’s a screen grab of C14 . Group 01 has automation and Group 02 has none.

I have also reported this , I would suggest you log this with Contact support as well .

I’ve experienced some wonkiness in the Mixconsole too, with random group folders deciding to fix themselves in the right zone, despite there being no option to change it.

Reported to support :slightly_smiling_face:
