Inconsistent Note Expression / MPE Options

Hi all,

I’m in the process of trying to move completely away from Logic and Ableton to Cubase, but have hit a stumbling block, wondered if anyone would be kind enough to help / explain?

When using MPE, I’ve set up my Roli as a note expression device, and when I use Phase Plant, I have access to the min / max values for tuning. However, when I use Pigments, these options aren’t here.

Is it possible to zoom in to the pitch bend editor for note expression? As is, it’s impossible to edit accurately. Am I doing something wrong or missing something? I’ve read the manual and am I right in thinking that without the ability to edit the min / max values for tuning, I can’t ‘zoom’ in to see the pitch bend data?

Also, when I double click the note to edit, it’s held indefinitely. I have to midi panic to stop the note.

And finally, is there no way to edit the note expression data with nodes, like in the CC lanes, or any other software? Seems to be pretty difficult to edit, unless I’m missing something?

Hope I’ve explained that ok, have attached some screen grabs also.

Hi,

You can Change the Editor Size by using the = hotspot at the bottom-center. You can use the H key to Zoom In Horizontally.

No, this is not possible. But you can use the hotspots to adapt (model) the curve.

Hi Martin,

Ok, I guessed that was all that could be done. I was hoping to be able to zoom in to the data within the editor, was aware of being able to increase the size with the = hotspot.

MPE implementation seems to be a bit odd in Cubase. Like there’s a lot of functionality, but the basics are completely missing. Very strange. And note expression only works on a fraction of synths. It’s like it’s trying to replace MPE, even though MPE is being widely adopted and popular. Bit confusing…

Anyway, thanks for the reply

Hi,

The truth is exactly the opposite. Note Expression features was available in Cubase for many many years before the MPE has defined. The MPE das highly inspired by Note Expression concept. That’s a hard position for Cubase to keep the whole Note Expression continuity and also support MPE as it developed.
