How might I go about making trombones 1/2/3 appear the same as trumpets 1/2/3/

First make sure their instrument names are definitely identical (ie the numbering is automatic, not baked into the instrument name)
Then check whether Tbn 3 is showing the instrument or player name in staff labels.
If neither of those help, please share the project file for someone to take a look.

That’s helpful! This solved my problem. Is it possible to then have trombone 3 actually be a bass trombone but be displayed in a group with trombone 1/2/3 like the trumpets? In other words, I want trombone 1/2/3 to be on the score but trombone 3 is actually holding a bass trombone.
Apologies for the enormous delay in getting back to you: I let my bookmark on this thread drop down my list.
You should be able to do this if you rename the bass trombone to have the exact same instrument name as your other 2 trombones. That way, the instrument will behave like a bass trombone, but be named like a standard trombone.
You can still rename the part layout to show “Bass Trombone” etc, if you want the player to have that clear marking on their part.
