Dunno, and I don’t remember which score or part that was from anymore now. Regardless, with or without the hairpin, it shouldn’t grab 1 or 3 bars of rest AFTER the hairpin.
Also, note in the gif that when I select the hairpin directly, it does NOT pull any bars of rest after it. So that actually behaved more as you’d expect on that front (although what it did with the rest of the preceding phrase is a bit weird too).
