Input percussion through MIDI keyboard

Hi,
I am on Dorico 2 and have the Toontrack VST easy drummer 2. I have created a player that uses this VST and can play notes on the MIDI keyboard and hear them.
But in write mode I press Ctrl+N to input notes, and as I play notes on the keyboard no notes appear in the staff.
What do I need to do ?

Have you tried changing the settings in Preferences->Note Input and Editing?

I changed the input onto kit or grid to ‘Use staff position’ and the notes I played on the MIDI keyboard started to appear on the staff.
But the assignments of keyboard MIDI notes on the VST do not correspond to the lines on the staff, so I think I need a percussion map where I associate the MIDI values that come in from the keyboard to notes that appear on specific staff lines.
But if I choose that, the notes still dont appear in the staff.
