Input Routing - Audio Tracks Should be Available as a Input Source

The direct input routing introduced in Cubase 13 was a great feature. But i’m just wondering why Audio Tracks don’t show up as input sources ? Are there any technical limitations ? Or was this an oversight from Steinberg ?

I would love to be able to route a Audio track directly into another audio track (without requiring a group channel) and record it.

Hi,

They are. Make sure, the output of the source is not the same as the output of the destination.

But it doesn’t allow you to create potential audio feedback loops. So if you don’t see any Audio Tracks available as an Audio Source it’s likely because of some routing. I’ve added a ‘dummy’ Group Channel to my Template that is a routing dead end to help get around this constraint.

I don’t understand your response. Please view the image I have provided and notice that Audio Tracks don’t show up in the routing input sources.

  1. Why don’t Audio tracks show in the list ?
  2. Instrument tracks maintain the same output routing “Stereo Out” when assigned as the input source.

I thought that this new routing feature implemented in Cubase 13 was specifically designed to avoid feedback loops and the need for a group channel to be used as a bus. So once again, i’m wondering why Audio Tracks are not available with this feature ?

What @Martin.Jirsak was meaning, I think, is that you cannot have, in the Input Routing dropdown list of an audio track A routed (Output Routing) to Z, another audio track also routed to Z.

I am constantly modifying and resampling audio and it would be convenient if Audio Tracks could make use of this new simplified routing feature that was introduced in Cubase 13 aswell.

Sorry if this has already been said… you just need to create a new audio track with no output routing at all. (no sends connected either) Once this is done, the stereo out becomes available as an input.

RME’s Totalmix makes loopbacks really easy. Otherwise, I’d have a dummy audio track with no routing in my template session.

Yes, the “Stereo Output” becomes available as a input source but I don’t want to record the entire stereo output, I would like the convenience of having the ability to choose individual Audio Tracks without needing to disable outputs and then solo’ing the track. That’s 2 additional steps in the process each time. Steinberg accomplished this simplified routing feature with Instrument Tracks, but why not with Audio Tracks ?

Oh I see what you mean. Interesting.

Basically it just needs to disable the stereo output and create a bus connection automatically in the background once it is selected as a input source, which I assume that is what it is doing for the instruments tracks to work.

Hi,

If your source Audio Track’s Output is routed to Stereo Out, the destination Audio Track’s Output must not be routed to Stereo Out.

I always set the source’s output to Not Connected in this case.

Btw, Render in Place doesn’t work for your use case? Or Export Audio Mixdown > Select the given Track > Enable import to a new Track after Export.
