I have an audio interface with up to 32 mic/line inputs, and I have it all nicely pre-configured and labelled within Studio Setup + Audio Connections.
Lately, I have noticed that I can only view and select from all my different hardware inputs at the creation of an audio track stage (under Audio Inputs > Select Hardware Input, they will all appear). In my case I’m just creating a mono track.
However, if I need to change the input after the fact (to another mono input), it does not appear in the list under Routing > Inputs. Here, I can only see a few busses, and weirdly it will show me one or two recently used hardware inputs. But not all – which is obviously what I am looking to see. The only way around this is to create a new audio track. Is that normal behavior or am I missing something here?
Hmm, well, maybe that is part of the issue – you see when I originally set up all my hardware (using C13), because I could only use one connection one time, I opted to create many of them under “External Effect” – the reason being several of my channel strips have nice compressors & EQs and therefore I use for both tracking or processing (as inserts). In fact I mostly use mostly use them for processing (more often than tracking). If I only created them as an input bus, I would not be able to use them as an external effect / insert, for example. I feel like in C13 anyway, though, the hardware inputs will still always available from the “Routing” drop down on any given audio track.
I seem to recall in the C14 release notes there was some change to this department with how audio routing works, allowing us to double hardware for different needs? Could this have anything to do with it? I am noticing that hardware I/O which used to be lit up red in that menu (to show they are being used) seems to no longer be the case, but I am looking through the release notes and cannot find anything on what was changed here and if I need to alter my setup in some way.
