Just a quick question: I am entering notes on Dorico, after having made sure that these notes (on stave A) are the ones I want, and I have put these onto Dorico.
I want to add another stave - Stave B. After the useful article from Dan (thank you) I would like to use the option of adding notes using my keyboard, and a numer of questions come to mind.
Is it possible to add the notes to Stave B while listening to a playback of stave A ? This would be useful.
Is it possible to add Stave B in sections, say 12 bars. I could then check that all is Ok, when I could hear both staves together.
To go with this, is it possible not to stop after, say, 12 bars in order to do this ? Can I resume from bar 13 on Stave B ?
These questions would make it easier to work with more staves, adding new music on stave at a time monitoring the music as it develops.
I realise that I have not explained my self properly, so let me try again.
Stage 1 - an initial entry on a single stave (A) of a melody. When it is right for me, I then go on to stage 2 .
Set up another stave under stave (A) (is this possible ?) then look to enter another part - a bass line or another melody. This is where I am asking if what I want to do is possible in Dorico. While I am entering the notes for stave (B), is it possible for me to hear how it fits with what I have already set up in Stave A ? It is a bit like Portastudio , where it is possible to listen to each part while a new part is added . I cannot find any place where this is a possiblity, but it would be useful. If not, I would have to display more than one stave from the start, and have to add the second line as a new entry (could I use a keyboard to do this ?) .
If this worked, it would be possible to build up multi parts one at a time, and check that they were OK for the rest of the music.
Thank you for your reply. Can you explain the last sentence - would I have to play back the new notes (Stave B in my details) somewhere else, and would this mean that I could not hear them with Stave A ?
This approach to writing music seems to be much more complicated than I thought !
Dorico won’t show the notes you are recording until you exit recording.
Do you not have Dorico and are evaluating requirements? If you do have Dorico, just put the cursor where you want to record and hit the record button. You’ll see exactly what I mean.
