Insert Coda symbol?

How do you make a coda symbol?

You don’t. You invoke the caret at the right musical spot, invoke the repeats popover (shift-R) and write coda. Dorico will insert the symbol, shift the next bar (according to the engraving options), etc.

Yay! So simple! Should be easier to find in the support materials. Thanks!

Try “inputting coda” in the search field

the important bit is inputting because that’s when the webhelp will describe the procedure to input it. If you search for “Coda”, there is too much information available…

Tried that (also “insert coda” and “coda symbol”, but couldn’t find it.

Exactly. That’s why I tell you. If you search a procedure, begin with “inputting”

Good to know. Thanks!

To be fair, a bunch of common synonyms for “inputting” should really work too, like “inserting” or “creating”.

I’ve tried “inserting”, but inputting was really the most effective here :person_shrugging:

I agree — inputting is a “programming” term for data entry. It would not have occurred to me to try that. I have found the Help difficult to navigate as I often get too much irrelevant information and not enough “here’s how to do” something.

That’s why I did explicitly write that adding “inputting” before the stuff you want some information will probably help finding what you’re looking for! I did not make it up, I think the author if the documentation herself (@Lillie_Harris :folded_hands::folded_hands::folded_hands:) gave us the trick!

Marc, sure, but the point is that this should be augmented with some other keywords that come to mind maybe before thinking about “inputting”…

Perhaps you should flag Lillie in a post and list the terms she should add. Lillie has always been very cooperative and has asked folks who could not find things what terms they used to search, but she needs specifics. Perhaps you could politely provide her your suggested alternatives.

If they are for finding “how to” articles, they need to be English present participles (as I think you know): finding, making, creating, etc.

As a non-native speaker, I’d expect to find relevant information with search strings like ‘how to input …’, ‘how to add …’, etc. It’s not obvious at all that one should use a present participle (BTW isn’t it actually a gerund?:face_with_monocle:).

Also not exactly intuitive…

Searches for “add X”, eg “add key signature”, turn up relevant pages at the top of the search results list.

“How to add a X” admittedly less so, but I will be completely honest and say that manually adding keywords with “how to add X” to every relevant page wont’t be my top priority for as long as there’s outstanding features that still need documentation…!
