Dear Forum,
when inserting notes (using no time signature), the following notes move, but the chords are displaced. How to anchor chords to their notes then?
And how to move the frame breaks also, and the system breaks relating to already written material on the right side of inserted notes - (to keep already composed music intact)…?
please! yes: How to…? THX!! I tried with copying notes ALT-Klick and/or R-Key Command to repeat sections, but did not work. The layout (Frame Breaks, System Breaks) did not move with the following sections either, so you can´t insert parts without destroying layout?
checked out a bit: the caret Insert idea works here, too. So chords are moved correctly this way THX
But it does not affect the proper movement of later layout, I am afraid.
My intention is to let the already written music including the layout intact completely while inserting.
Well, inserting notes you DO lengthen the music, so the layout is bound to shift a little.
You can, however, move System- & Frame breaks with Alt-Arrow.
Also (and I’m notoriously bad at this), the preferred workflow is to input the music first, and then worry about the layout. If you’re editing the music at a later point in the process, you’ll have to move your breaks around, I’m afraid.
EDIT: And you can determine how far forward you want Insert Mode to work, that’s what the Red Line Of Death is for. (Using the system Track, it’s the thing that looks like a traffic sign.)
Maybe there is a way to insert like a certain amount of beats moving the whole section to the right…Just an idea. Using v3.5 here, maybe I cant fnd the system track?
The system Track is a grey bar above the music. In 3.5 I’m not sure the insert mode thing is included, might be a 4.x feature.
Inserting time works as well , using Shift-B, “+3q” adds 3 quarter notes, and the system break stays put also.
B.
Oh this is a good method! Looks good. Very helpful. THX very much!!
Checked it out. With Shift-B. Neighbouring Layout stays intact!!
EDIT: There is a plus sign on the system track, that you mentioned, which inserts time also indestructively, imho.
Found some in depth methods with your help here in no time!
This doesn’t work for me. Is there something I’m missing? I’m using Dorico 4.3.11.1117
Is it the case that this will only work for midi keyboard input?
Thanks, Daniel.
That works. However, the solution offered by @YourMusicPro doesn’t seem to have this cursor (Global Insert) selected (see screen shot):
You can’t move system-attached items without using the global Insert mode scope. Perhaps the chord symbols in Benji’s example were local chord symbols, or perhaps they were staff-attached text items.
Actually, I think I found the solution: If there’s only one player, like in my project, Dorico will happily move Chord Symbols along with the notes!
Not so anymore with >=2 Players…
Right, yes, there’s some logic that will automatically “promote” the insert mode scope from player scope to global scope if there’s only one instrument in the ensemble.
