(Yes, below this, the post is ai written. It is more precise this way. The Channel/Fader in the Inspector area of my midi tracks, if it always showed the associated VSTi bus channel/fader, would be a great feature. But the midi tracks only show the Channel/Fader of the first instrument of a multi. And all my instruments do have their own stereo bus. Details below…)
I’ve run into what appears to be inconsistent (possibly buggy) behavior with the Inspector’s Channel/Fader section when working with Vienna Ensemble Pro (multi-output) in Nuendo 14 and 15.
Setup:
-
VEP loaded as a Rack Instrument
-
Multiple MIDI tracks routed to individual instruments within a single VEP instance
-
Each instrument in VEP is routed to its own discrete audio output
-
These outputs appear as separate input/return channels in Nuendo (one per instrument)
Expected behavior:
When selecting a MIDI track, the Inspector’s Channel/Fader should follow and display the corresponding audio return channel (since each MIDI track maps to a unique VEP output).
Actual behavior:
-
The Inspector (MIDI sections) updates correctly per track
-
However, the Channel/Fader section remains fixed, typically showing the first VEP return channel of the instance
-
It does NOT follow the selected MIDI track
Key observation:
-
If I click directly on the corresponding VEP return track, the Inspector Channel/Fader updates correctly.
-
This confirms routing is correct and Nuendo can resolve the relationship — but only when selecting the audio channel, not the MIDI track
Additional notes:
-
“Sync Selection between Project and MixConsole” is enabled
-
Each VEP instrument has its own dedicated output (not shared)
-
This makes the Inspector fader unreliable for quick level adjustments from MIDI track selection
Question:
Is this intended behavior, or a known issue/limitation with Rack Instruments and multi-output routing?
