I have a MacB ook Pro (Intel-based) with OS Sonoma 14.6.1.
I want to install Dorico Pro 5.
I downloaded and ran the Steinberg Download Assistant, and downloaded and installed all the components of Dorico pro 5.
It all went okay, except when installing the file ‘HALion Sonic 7.1.0 - Instrument’. I then get the message ‘Installation failed due to an unknown error’. When I try to launch the installer manually by doubleclicking the installer file, I get a text file with uncomprehensible characters. I tried rerunning the installation after restarting the Mac (and closing all programs where possible), but I get the same result. Can somebody help me?
Hi @rob.biemond , and welcome to the Forum!
Sorry to hear that you have problems with Halion Sonic installation. While waiting that the Team responds to you (it is a ver busy time in this weeks for them), if you are able to start Dorico, you can post the Diagnostics zip file that you can create from the Help menu. And also a screenshot of your error message. This could help the Team to solve your issue.
You can also try to install Halion Sonic from this link (both Halion Sonic VST and its Content):
To be able to upload files, you may need to read the forum a little bit, so that your trust level increases. Here more infos:
Are you able to attach a screenshot of the incomprehensible text here?
Hi Christian,
As a 0-level user I understand I cannot post any attachments. How do I upload a file?
This is the error message I get when installing HALion Sonic 7.1.0 - Instrument:
And this is what I get when I double-click Halion_Sonic_7.1_Installer_mac.dmg.sda-download:
This is the Dorico Diagnostics.zip file I created from the Help menu:

Dorico Diagnostics.zip (74.9 KB)
A file with the extension of sda-download is an incomplete download.
This extension exists while the Download Assistant is still downloading the data and it will be renamed to the final name (ending with .dmg) after it is completed successfully.
Try to redownload the package and make sure it is complete.
Thanks, that could be the solution.
How do I redownload the package? I can’t find this option in the Download Assistant.
Have a look at Christian_R’s first answer in this thread. There is a link to the Steinberg webpage where you can directly download packages without the SDA.
