Instrument change text and articulations on wrong staff

Hi,

I’m having a specific issue when I change instruments in a player. I’ve learned how to add instruments to a player and then notate / toggle between staves in Galley view (great feature!)

However, when I add text or even articulations to one staff/instrument, it appears on another staff, weirdly… I have uploaded two screenshots. The first changes from mandolin (with tabs) to violin, with no issue. But in the second screenshot, I have added bowing articulations that for some reason attach to the guitar part on this player… This happens when I also add text to the staff with notes on it (it goes immediately to another instrument’s staff).

What’s going on?

Okay, here’s a strange thing. So this is a screen shot of part of the Player (they are playing all these instruments – gtr, violin, mando, and piano). You’ll see “VIOLIN” is for some reason attached to the top (gtr) staff. Same with the bowing marks. This is the same when I try to attach text to any of the instrument staves. EXCEPT the piano part at the bottom right. For some reason I can attach text to the piano staff.

Any help??

It would help if you could upload the project here, so someone can take a look at it.

It looks like you have added the bowing marks to the top stave rather than the Violin stave.
The text in a box is an instrument change notice generated by Dorico for players holding more than one instrument.

I added the bowing marks to the appropriate notes but they leap up and appear on the top staff. Same with the text.

Look at the guitar layout in galley view… Thanks!

Just uploaded ^^

I can reproduce this – staff text and playing techniques added to the violin staff appear above the guitar staff – but I don’t know why it happens.

Even if you switch the order of the instruments in Setup mode, the markings stay with the guitar staff, and the attachment lines point there.

The problem is that the notes don’t actually belong to the violin staff - they’ve been crossed over to the violin staff using the “Cross to Staff Below” command, but this doesn’t actually move the notes, it just changes where they draw. I suspect you meant to use “Move to Staff Below” instead. To fix it, select those notes and do “Reset to Original Staff”, and then move them where you want them.

Aha – this makes sense (don’t understand why it’s set up that way, but your explanation makes sense). Thanks!
