Has Cubasis been fully tested on iOS 18? We have a live show coming up in two weeks (and all the audio, lights and MIDI are run off of Cubasis), and we cannot afford any glitches.
Safer to stay with iOS 17 until after the show?

Simple answer: Never touch a running system.
Leave the Upgrade for after the show, there is nothing so important in iOS 18 that it is worth risking the show.
Yeah, that was my default answer as well
Iām still curious about how Steinberg goes about certifying Cubasis on new iOS releases, so hopefully somebody from Steinberg will chime in, too.
Hi @Timo00
Weāve tested Cubasis on a few devices where the previous iOS 18 beta and pre-release versions were installed, but did not complete final checks (since the official release is just available).
There is always a chance that new iOS/iPadOS releases can break things. You may complete your shows first before upgrading.
Best,
Lars
Thank you Lars!
I am definitely sticking with iOS 17 for the next show, but at some point, Iād like to upgrade (weāve got a few weeks before playing again the following month).
Would it be possible for you to post a reply to this thread when Cubasis is certified on the gold master of iOS 18? Iām runnning on an iPad Pro, if that makes any difference. Thank you!
Hi Timo00,
I have been using Cubasis 3 on both iPad Air 4 and 13ā Air M2, both have OS18, I have not encountered any problems at all, projects on both iPads contain a mix of IAA and AUv3 plugins and work as normal
Mike.
Thank you Mike for sharing, that is reassuring!
I am still going to wait until after our show (never touch a working system unless needed!) to upgrade to iOS 18, if for no other reason than this:
Wow, that is frightening, all those Pro M4 owners who receive a replacement iPad from Apple will have to send their bricked iPad back to Apple without being able to erase all their information !
Iām glad I chose the Air M2.
Iāve personally not bumped into any issues with Cubasis 3 and iPadOS18 running on my 11" M1 iPadPro.
There might be some issues with some 3rd party plug-ins but not with any of the ones Iāve currently got installedā¦(Everything FF, Eventide, TB, Moog, Blamsoft, AudioThing, Bleass, Bram Bos, JimAudio, FAC, BeepStreet and IK MixBox, Korg iM1, Module and Electribe Wave, TAL UN-O-LX, discoDSP OB-Xd & Discovery and a bunch more).
Iām usually pretty vocal here and there when stuff doesnāt workā¦
I notice you never mentioned Synthmaster 2, if you do have it, try changing presets manually, it used to be instant and Midi CC messaging now takes more than a bar at 120bpm before it actually changes, on some occasions it crashes SM.
I would be interested to know your results when you get time because according to Lars he has not encountered any problems with prog changes,
I am using both iPad Air 4 & Air M2, SM2 is affected on both devices.
I have Synth Master 2. Iāll check it with Cubasis 3ā¦
ā¦In LogicPro for iPad I donāt notice any abnormal difference between iPadOS17 vs iPadOS18 when changing patches.
Some patches that contain a load of samples can take time but most patch changes happen between ~1/32nd and ~1/4th depending on complexity.
Itās the same in Cubasis 3 to be honest.
If you load a patch like Tron400 Flute+Violins it loads and extracts a large lump of samples and that takes time and has always taken time
I donāt notice any abnormal behavior with SynthMaster 2 whether I use Cubasis 3 or LogicPro for iPad. This is on an 11" M1 iPadPro.
One fun oddity in Cubasis 3 is that when I bring up the Cubasis tempo-dialogue I get āSyntmaster 2 is currently in the Backgroundā¦ā
Over all Iām positively surprised that Iāve not bumped into any real āshow stoppersā with iPadOS18. When iPadOS17 initially dropped there was far more of these small things that took a few point updates to fix.
In this case I would say it would be wise to wait maybe until 18.1.x or even 18.2 if the other OS features do not feel āessentialā (I really enjoy the Meth Notes and being able to format USB-Sticks among other things).
Cheers!
Ok, thanks for checking
FWIW, I did update to iOS 17.7, and everything works flawlessly.
Not touching iOS 18 until our next two shows are behind us, though, and we are taking a winter break to do things like major iOS upgrades
