Is Doricos enharmonic spelling algorithm aware of present chord?

Hi,
I’ve searched the forum but didn’t find a corresponding thread so here is my question:

When deciding how to enharmonically spell notes at a specific spot, does Dorico take into account the chord symbol that’s present there? I’m working on a iReal Pro - MIDI-Import of “Well You Needn’t” (Thelonius Monk) . The first part constantly switches from F7 to Gb7. Unfortunately Dorico chooses sharps instead of flats for some notes in the “Gb7-bar”. Interestingly only in the bass part - the piano part looks fine. So it would be nice, that if I tell Dorico, which chord symbol is present in this bar, it would make up its mind and change the enharmonic spelling accordingly.

I’ve tried “Reset Note Spelling in all Layouts” and “Respell Notes Automatically”
but then it’s getting worse:

Actually, I would welcome Dorico taking spelling hints from Chord Symbols…

B.

Not that Dorico is doing this intentionally, but aren’t sharps often preferred by string players to flats due to the nature of their instrument?

That rule only applies in the complete absence of context, i.e. practically never.
The slightly-sharp keys like G, D or A are indeed the most comfortable/resonant to play in due to the open strings (cf: every classical/romantic violin concerto) but except for utter beginners, players should be able to deal with every key. It’s much more important that the spelling makes diatonic/harmonic sense to aid in fingering and intonation. In this case, that definitely means flats.

No, it doesn’t.

Daniel, thanks for your short reply.
In similar cases you often add something like “…but it’s something we consider to implement some day”.
If this is not the case here, please consider my post as a feature request.

I think the fact that this is a MIDI import makes it less ‘intelligent’ than Dorico is able to be. When I enter this bass line on my MIDI keyboard in a staff with an F major key signature, it automatically spells it with flats, because this makes the most sense diatonically, without any involvement of chord symbols.

Thank you for investigating - very interesting!
