I currently have the HALion Sonic that comes with Cubase 13 Pro (I was told it’s Sonic 7 SE but have never seen it referred to as ‘SE’ anywhere). Anyhow I’m having issues where one of my computers doesn’t see the license for ‘HALion Sonic Content’ and the other does (despite only having one Steinberg account) and no one has been able to help resolve that issue which leads me to my question…
If I purchase HALion 7, would that be a full replacement (and then some) for the Sonic version that I have… as in, does it include all the same instruments and more? If so, does it install over Sonic 7 and would all I need to do is change the VST from HALion Sonic to HALion and select the same instrument?
Thanks in advance for any insight.
Yes, the complete Halion Sonic factory content is included with Halion 7.
If you activate and install Halion 7, it will be installed as a separate plug-in. However, all of its content will also become available in Halion Sonic 7 (except for the “HAL Factory” library originating from Halion 4, for technical reasons).
The “Halion Sonic 7 Collection” also includes all of the Halion 7 factory content, except the aforementioned “HAL Factory” library. This collection isn’t the same as the exclusive content that’s included with Cubase and other Steinberg DAWs.
Before attempting to upgrade, please check this topic:
Free HALion Sonic 7 (included with Cubase, Dorico...) cannot be upgraded to HALion 7!
In short, if you’ve never paid for Halion or Halion Sonic before, then you don’t qualify for upgrade pricing, unfortunately.
