Is it possible to create a selection or entry point in the score without having to use the mouse?

I’m finding clicking in the score to create an editing entry point to be tough on the wrists - is there a way to “enter” the score with the keyboard?
Once I’m in there the arrow keys and modifiers are fantastic..

Shift-N for note input, otherwise right-arrow possibly followed by one or more TAB:s depending on what objects are present in the beginning.

Or, in fact, the Enter key.

Ah, yes, for getting into Entry Mode, starts at the upper left bar of the visible score - but what I’m after is a way to do the same thing, but in Selection mode, not Entry mode - like what you get when you click on a “rest” in an empty bar…?

When there’s no selection already, this doesn’t appear to do anything. I’m looking for a way to create an initial selection without using the mouse.

Did you try this?

Thank you ! - But… I see it selecting the bar number at the top of the score on the upper left. Pressing tabs doesn’t seem to accomplish anything - that bar number stays selected, and the arrow keys don’t seem to do anything..
….After arrow selects the bar number, Shift-right arrow gets into the score - sometimes. This is confounding behavior. Now I can’t seem to get past the selection of the bar number with any modifier.

Select All (Command A) – everything in the current flow will be selected.
Press Enter or Shift N – you’ll get the caret on the first system, first beat.
Deselect All (Command D) – just for safety!

Actually what I’m after is selecting a “rest” in the current view without entering Entry mode. I seemed to get it a couple times, it selected a measure number, and a couple times I was able to progress to a nearby “rest” with shift-arrow, but not consistently.
Once there, then keyboarding around the score is easy… it’s just getting something active in the score so I can move around while not in Entry mode
