Hello,
Is there a way to customize individual fingering font color?
If not, will it be implemented soon. I am currently using Dorico 4.2.0.
Thanks.
Best,
Paul

No, Paul, I’m afraid this is not currently possible. Can you tell us a bit more about your requirements?
Thank you so much for your reply, Daniel.
For string instruments, often I will use color codes for different positions (for education/practice purpose). At the moment, to customize the colors, I can only use the Text tool but I am hoping I could do it with fingering text evenutally.
Thanks, Paul. I will make a note of this and we’ll look into it when we get a chance.
Thank you very much!
When I moved it and reset the location, it will be displayed momentarily but eventually returned to the incorrect position, as highlighted in the attached image.
Hi Daniel,
And just now, I remember why using the Text tool for fingering is extremely inconvenient, because stave spacing would often jump and I need to go back and forth to adjust the stave spacing. Using your designed fingering, the process is a lot more user-friendly.
Text items can be set (in the properties panel) to not Avoid Collisions (turn the property on and leave the tickbox unticked). Alternatively you can set this globally for all text items at Engraving Options > Text - I’m not in front of it but the option is called “Use Default Positions”.
Thank you so much for the useful tip!!
Paul, sorry to leave this thread for so long. I’ve not been able to reproduce at will the problem you describe with the incorrect position of the fingering number in the presence of a scoop jazz articulation. Could you please attach a project that reproduces this for me?
schumann_IV_v1_05.dorico (1.3 MB)
Hi Daniel, thanks for getting back to me on the issue. But I cannot find the problematic file at the moment and replicate the scoop + fingering number issue I encountered before.
However, there is a problem using text in Dorico: whenever I try to attach text to the FIRST NOTE of the first bar of a new system, e.g. in bar 19 of the attached file, the text object, e.g. “2”, is attached to the previous system instead. And this always happens to the first note of the first bar.
At some point, I thought the issue was resolved, but somehow it persisted. Thank you.
For some reason which I can’t work out, if I select one item of your existing staff-attached text (which is masquerading as fingering), it cannot be moved to the left or right using alt + arrow key. If I select two or more, they move.
The attachment problem you described only happens for me if I try to copy some of your existing staff-attached text to another note using alt-click. When I enter some new staff-attached text, it copies to where I want it with no problems using alt-click, and a single item of that new text also can be moved using using alt + arrow key.
Resetting Position, Appearance and the various Options to Factory had no effect. Library Manager didn’t show anything which might give some clues.
Until the reasons behind this odd behaviour can be identified, I would suggest deleting the text and entering it anew.
Edit:
Having done some more experimenting, I have discovered that a single item of your existing staff-attached text can be moved by dragging with the mouse. After doing that, the text can also be alt-clicked to anywhere in the music, including the first note of a system, and also moved left or right by using alt + left- or right-arrow.
Hi Daniel,
I also want to colour-code fingerings. I have notes colour-coded for different harpsichord manuals to make fast switches from upper to lower as clear as possible and colour-coding the fingerings would make this even clearer.
Is there any way of doing this yet?
Thanks,
James
No, I’m afraid there’s no way to change the colours of fingerings at the moment, sorry. You could add those specific fingerings as text items, which can have their colours overridden.
Hi Daniel, I came across this thread because I would love to be able to highlight a particular fingering somehow as well. Maybe in a future version consider a highlighter function of some sort? It would certainly help with teaching and study…
