Is it safe to update to MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1 when using Dorico 5?

Is it safe to update to MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1 when using Dorico 5? If not, how long should one typically wait in order to stay updatedish while not running into compatibility issues? I am on Mac mini M2 and using wonderful and totally game-changing Dorico daily!

Dorico 5 is perfectly fine on Sonoma. It is both compatible with and supported on Sonoma.

Like most (decent) developers, Steinberg usually releases an official statement when the new Mac OS is released.

Here’s the Sonoma one:

You’ll find posts on this forum from the Dorico team (and users) about any problems, and how they plan to address them.

I’d suggest generally get into the habit of updating to the new MacOS in January/February. It’s usually released in September or October, so that will give a few months for any serious errors to be ironed out; and for developers to catch up.

At this time of year, Sonoma is pretty much ‘done’; and everyone is gearing up for the next spin of the merry-go-round.

Wonderful! I already have 14, was just hesitant to update it! This information is great for the next major update, so big thanks!

Awesome, then I will go ahead!

Good to know! Big thanks!

Oh: do you mean “is it safe to update from an earlier version of Sonoma to the latest one”…?

In general, “point” updates within the same name OS are generally fine to update. You can leave it a couple of days, just to be on the safe side, by which time early adopters will have discovered anything egregious.

There’s generally a big kerfuffle on the internet if anything goes wrong, so a quick search will bring up any problems.

Thanks @benwiggy !

Something seems very wrong as Dorico is now struggling to calculate beats per bar when I change time signature. Here for instance I wrote 4/4, yet Dorico gives me only two crotchets. Not sure if this bug has to do with the update, but it definetely would be great to have fixed:)

No, that’s nothing to do with an OS update, If you add a 4/4 sig two beats before a 12/8 time sig, then it won’t insert an extra two beats. (Unless you turn on Insert mode.)
