Can you explain to me why the manual for Retrologue (rather than Retrologue 1) provided that hard sync does not need the master-slave relationship (being just an algorithm and simulation techniques, I assume) while other types like cross provides a combination. If everything is just a sort of algorithms and representations why is a master role required at all?
Hi @elenayellow211
Not sure if I fully understand the question, but the manual says:
Sync provides different hard-sync oscillators, where each is a combination of a master and a slave oscillator.
So basically, an oscillator in sync mode, is actually two oscillators, with the selected, audible, waveform synced to an inaudible sine osc.
At least it behaves like this.
The same is true for crossmod.
The only oscillator spanning effect is the ringmodulation parameter.
If I remember correctly, this was the same in Retrologue 1.
If you refer to the language of “master” and “slave” in general, I agree that it is outdated and needs an overhaul.
But from a behavior point of view, it is like a combination of two oscillators. Like carrier and modulator, or synced and unsynced, or whatever we will settle on…
But maybe I misunderstood completely. If so, please be gentle and explain in different words.
