Is the Project Color Setup feature broken

Hi
I tried multiple times to create a custom color palette in Project Color Setup and it keep reverting to random variations of what I saved.

The default color palette is 16 colors, 1 tint. The changes I made are 24 colors, 2 tints. Plus I edited several of the color parameters to create various new colors and I gave several colors custom names.

Everytime I access the color palette it is a different variations of what I saved. Sometimes the custom color names are missing, sometimes the custom colors I created have reverted to their defaults. Sometimes the entire palette reverts to the default 16 x 1 palette.

I did click “Save Color Set as Default” and I clicked apply. I also tried quiting Cubase, relaunching and the palette is still not what I saved.

Scanning the forums, I encountered other users experiencing this problem.

Is there a way to get this to work or are there any new workarounds?

Thank You

The Default Color Set is an internally (in Defaults.xml) stored, project-independant color palette that is copied to the Color Set of the currently active project using the Reset Color Set to Default command (precisely said: Reset Project Color Set to Default Color Set).

Conversely, the Color Set of the currently active project is saved as the Default Color Set using the Save Color Set as Default command (precisely said: Save Project Color Set as Default Color Set).

The Project Colors Setup window therefore always shows the Color Set of the currently active project, NOT the Default Color Set (though they may be identical). In other words, which Color Set is displayed, depends always on the currently active project.

Thank you for responding. Everything you have stated, I had understood already. The commands: “Save as default setup” “load default setup” etc are very straightforward, not ambiguous. The problem is that these commands are not working properly for me. When I make changes to the Project Color Setup, and save as default (for all projects) for some reason unknown to me, it does not appear with changes as I saved it.

Thank you again responding.
Regards

It’s seems to be working now. I believe I had a misconception about how to save my changes. I mistakenly made changes, then clicked “Save as default” before clicking Apply. I believe you must click “Apply” first after making changes. Then you can make it the default. Also, I now realize that the default color set us not
automatically loaded in all projects, because each project can have its own color set. The default color set must be loaded manually, it seems, by using the Project Color Setup dialog.

The color management is a mess. Broken ? I don’t care : for me, it’s simply unusable in a reliable way. I made a topic on the subject more than three years ago and have avoided to touch it at any cost, since :

Hi
I made the initial post.

After indepth experimentation, I have learned the the Color Set functions perfectly and consistently as intended. That said, it is very limited and nonintuitive.

Below is a little guide I made to editing and using Color Sets in Cubase.

I am sorry if it is confusing.

Overview
Each Project can have a unique Color Set.
Each Project uses the “Color Set” that was last applied.

## To Edit The Current Project’s Color Set
Go to Project > Project Color Palette (near bottom)
Or
Press ALT + SHIFT + S.
On the Presets tab, set the Layout.
On the Color Set tab, edit the color parameters by clicking on a color. You can also name colors by double clicking on a color name.

## After making changes, to make it available in the current Project:
Do not click “Make default" on the Options tab.
Click “Apply.”
This action will make the changes to the Color Set available to the current Project.
This action also closes the “Project Color Palette”

## To Make a Color Set the Default Color Set available for all Projects
Open a Project that has the color set you want to make the Default Color Set.
Or
Edit a Project’s Color Set, in the “Project Colors Setup”
Click Apply. Reopen the “Project Colors Setup”.
On the Options tab, click “Save Color Set As Default”.

### Result:
• New Projects will use the Default Color Set
• Existing Projects will load with the Project’s current Color Set, but you can load the Default Color Set into any existing Project. See Next Topic.

## To load the Default Color Set into a Project
When you open a Project, it loads the Project’s current Color Set.
To load the Default Color Set into a Project, go to Project Color Palette (SHIFT + ALT + S) > Options tab.

  1. Click “Reset Color Set to Default”.
  2. Then click “Apply”.

## Two Different Defaults
On the Options tab of the “Project Color Setup”.
“Reset Color Set To Default” will load the Color Set that you last saved as the Default Color Set.
“Reset Color Set to Factory Settings ” will load the Factory 16 x 1 Color Set and also makes it the Default Color Set, overwriting the current Default Color Set. Caution!

## Storing a Color Set in A Project
Open or create a Project.
Edit the Color Set.
Click Apply.
Save the Project.
Or
Save a Project with a Color Set you want to save.

## Caution: “Reset Color Set To Factory Settings” will overwrite the Default Color Set
This Option resets the current Project’s Color Set to the Factory Default Color Set (16 x 1)
And also sets the Factory Default (16 x 1) Color Set as the Default Color set. .

True, except when you create it from a Template Project, then it uses the Color Set stored there.

Correct. Thank you
