I’m enjoying my journey from lifelong Finale user to Dorico. I am figuring out things in “Dorico language” and trying to avoid the pitfalls of expecting Dorico to operate in the same way Finale does/did.
I’m getting the hang of the transposition mechanic. But, is there a shortcut that can be created for the common transposition up or down an octave.
Finale had a shortcut that can be created for any interval and assigned to a hotkey. So, I had transpose up assigned to 7 on the keyboard and transpose down to 6, I think. (note this was on the keyboard, not the numeric keypad).
Is there a similar function in Dorico?
Or maybe there’s a Dorico way for octave up/down transposition that is similarly easy that I just don’t know yet.
Thanks! I love the community here and it is one of the reasons that making this transition is going so well (if slowly! ) for me.
There already is one:
Ctrl/Cmd+Alt/Opt+(up or down arrow)
Ctrl + alt+ arrow up (Octave higher)
Ctrl + alt + arrow down ( Octave down)
For a Mac take the equivalent keys for crtl and alt, I don’t know the names of it.
On the spot again! I just wrote that down in my Dorico notebook.
By the way, “alt” on Mac is “option” key, I think.
Thanks!
Thanks, man!
FYI, on Mac it’s “Command + option + up/down arrow key”
You’re correct. I’ve updated my post.
Also, here is a key command quick reference card:
Much appreciated
Hi. I have just submitted a post asking for help on this topic. I have a fast Windows 11 system with lots of RAM, but when I hit “Ctrl + Alt + Up/Down arrow” my screen turns upside down!
Ctrl-Alt-Arrow was a Windows 7 onwards shortcut for screen rotations!
Has Dorico any alternative for single-note octave shifts?
Regards, Pete
There was a thread a month or so back about Windows hijacking shortcuts. Try searching the forum.
See this article:
Just a quick “Thank you” to the guys who helped. If it helps anyone else, I disabled the HotKeys in Windows 11 : Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down Arrows now performs the octave shift.
