I would like to be able to copy and paste curves from MIDI CCs to automation.
Is there a way to convert back and forth?
This seems to be a different mechanism than what I am inquiring about.
The manual excerpt you have posted seems to be a way to direct incoming CCs to be recorded to an automation track.
I am not asking about how to record MIDI CCs to automation tracks, but transfer the data of a MIDI CC to automation.
I would also be interested in being able to route the output of MIDI CC lane directly to a VST parameter if possible.
From CC to Automation:
Menu MIDI → Functions → Extract MIDI Automation
This will move CC to an automation lane (you’ll have to make it visible manually after using this function). From there you can copy and paste the automation events to any other automation lane.
I am not aware of any way to transform automation into CC data.
It’s been a while since I’ve done it, but basically you clone a new track using this ‘merge’ feature to get a new track (or replace the old one) with true CC events stored in the ‘MIDI part’. Very common when doing a General MIDI (SMF File) mix down.
Note, it is also possible to ‘cut/copy/paste’ events from a VST automation lane directly into a MIDI/Instrument track (Or vice verse…cut/copy/paste from a CC lane into a VST automation lane).
If you ‘copy’ rather than ‘cut’ you’ll have duplicate events in both forms, but you can either remove those from the VST automation lane manually, or select some settings on what Cubase should do (Use automation, MIDI, average the two, etc.) Those settings are found at MIDI/MIDI Controller Automation Setup.
Can you tag VV1 so that he/she doesn’t miss your reply?
Not sure how? I’d assumed he’d get regular updates to all the thread contributions?
Thanks Brian, yes I do get notifications for the post.
I’ll have to try out the techniques you have described in my next session.
