Is there a way to replace an insert by dragging a new one from the media bay?

Is there a modifier key I’m missing? If I drag a new plugin from the Right Zone Media Panel (>VST Effects) onto an insert that already has a plugin in it, it just moves that plugin down. I want to be able to replace a plugin by dragging a new one on it. Is there a modifier key for this?

Hi,

I’m not aware of any. But you can easily click on the Select Insert arrow in the Inserts list and select the plug-in from the list. It’s much faster.

I was definitely aware of that, and it is faster — but there is a particular reason I’m wanting this feature for a certain workflow. That’s unfortunate.

Just curious, but what is the particular/certain workflow?

Well, its really just concepts of a workflow right now. But really it is for testing out plugins that I don’t use often, and I like going to the mediabay on the right for this simply for the plugin pictures feature. I have found that I really appreciate the mediabay plugin list screenshot feature especially for plugins I own that I am not as familiar with, because it allows me to see a picture of what that plugin is incase I forgot exactly what it is.
So I have been taking screenshots of these plugins that I am less familiar with for this reason, and then when I am testing out what they do, I was really hoping I could drag one plugin onto a channel, and then when I am done testing that plugin, drag another plugin I want to test right over it to quickly swap. Its not a huge deal to drag out the other plugin before dragging in the new one, but it would just be nice and feel a little more intuitive.
This would also be helpful for when I am in a mixing situation and want to test out, say, a couple different compressors, and maybe I want to test out some compressors I haven’t used much before. I could go to the mediabay, see the screenshot to get a vibe for what that compressor does, and drag it onto the compressor that I want to replace.
Its not a tried and tested workflow, but its something I’m starting
