Is there something special about saxes?

I tried converting one of my Finale files to Dorico via MusicXML. It looks like it did a nice job–in particular, it automatically assigned appropriate instruments to most of my staves.

However, it got it wrong for the staff marked “Alto sax.”–it assigned some kind of choir sound. Is this because it should have been spelled “Alto saxophone” (and therefore it thought I was just saying “Alto”)?

Probably. But regardless of whether the import looks correct or not, I would re-assign all instruments anyways. Safer that way. Then sounds will be correct.
