I know every mix calls for something different, but I’m wondering is this curve is a little too severe for a master EQ curve? I was under the impression that master EQ curves should be fairly mild. Background: I thought I had a good mix, but then I listened to a professionally mastered song and realized mine was not nearly as smooth. So I made these cuts and now it sounds very smooth… but I have pulled so many DB’s out that I have to lower the master limit threshold to -12db to even get it to light up! That doesn’t seem right? Am I going to need to constantly refer to a reference track throughout the whole mix process?? Can I not trust my ears at all? Help
