Is this a problem, or am I just missing something?

Hi, I’m having a couple of problems with VST Live 3 (3.0.19 exactly). In the connections, I’ve configured different audio outputs, but when I try to select the audio output (in sends, stacks, mixer, etc.), only the main output and the song title appear. The other outputs don’t show up. Am I doing something wrong?

Also, how on earth does automation work? In the tracks section, I create a new automation track, but no track is created. In the automation tab at the bottom, it always says ‘No Object Selected’. I select tracks, audio events, MIDI events, add plugins… it doesn’t matter, there never seems to be anything to automate in that tab. What am I missing about how automation works?

How can things that should be so simple be so complicated? I’ve never had problems with these things in any DAW I’ve used, but no matter how much I try, I can’t figure it out in VST Live. And the manual isn’t much help either, to be honest. There aren’t any video tutorials that explain it either. I’m frustrated.

Please help. Thanks.

Connections: You need to add an “Out” in your mixer and connect that to your sound card connection. Then send whatever to that Out.

Ah, that’s the extra step I was missing. Thank you! I was going crazy

The topic of automation: I create an automation track, but nothing is created. I can’t access the inspector because there is no track to select. :man_shrugging:

I know it looks complicated but doing it this way allows you to have different devices and maintain their connections.

As for Automation: When you add an automation track use the inspector (<INSP) to map what it will control.

Ha - crossed with your reply when I decided to split my reply - oops.

Maybe this will help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnqHcPcZC40

As with a MIDI track you can draw a block on the track and then add events to it.

Or try this:-

Add an automation track
Open the inspector
Set the connection to what you want to control - let’s use “Stereo Out” as an example.
There are 16 channels of automation - use mapping to select Volume in channel 1.
Now draw a block in the automation track.
Double click the block you just drew to open the editor
You can now draw events within that block.

I could try it if automation tracks were created

I don’t know what I have to do to make them appear.

That’s weird! Works here, same versio . Is this a new project? If not try creating a new one.

Do you have v2? If so is that the same?

Maybe one for the devs: @Spork can you shed any light on this

This happens with both new and old projects. I haven’t tried it in VSTLive 2. It occurs on two different computers, my desktop and my laptop. Same behavior.
Same problem with the video track, signature track, chord track, and sampler track. I click add track and they aren’t created.

Hm. I can’t reproduce it on the Mac. Will have a look at Windows later.

Even stranger that you can’t add multiple track types, and on two computers.

Windows versions work fine for me as well.

Daft question: Did you install using the Steinberg Downloader before applying updates?

Very often the restart of computer can help. Especially after installing new version.
I didn’t find any problem with track creation. Does it behave the same after VST Live restart? And after computer restart?

This is also inexplicable, and I had problems before with Cubase 11/12 - when installing from Steinberg Downloader, there was no message that something might be wrong, but Cubase worked with problems that no one can reproduce (if I remember the problems was with adding tracks!). Then when downloading from the download page and installing, everything was fine. So in this case, if we follow the updates every week, we download from the vstlive.net page.

You probably have VST Live in another language. Try setting it to English; it might work.

Bingo. I had it in Spanish. I switched it to English and it creates the tracks perfectly. I never would have imagined that was the reason. Thanks!

Most of the menus are in English - sorry I didn’t spot the Spanish entries or I’d have mentioned language.

This has been reported elsewhere and a fix is due soon.
