Isolating percussion instrument for roll notation?

Hi smart people!

(And thanks for your patience as I continue to navigate the wonderful world of Dorico with 30 years’ worth of Finale brain maps!)

I’d like to notate a roll on the snare in this drum set part, but adding a tremolo notation to the snare note puts it on the same stem as the kick and hi-hat noteheads, which (at least to my eye) looks a little unclear. I’ve tried moving the snare notehead to a different “voice” on the staff, but it doesn’t seem to have any effect.

How do folx usually make this sort of thing happen in Dorico?

Thanks in advance!

David

Try right-clicking with the snare note selected, and do Percussion->change voice->Extra up-stem voice.

Perhaps better to edit the percussion kit so that the snare is always up-stem, and the feet down-stem.

AHA! I was looking in the “Voices” menu. (Hadn’t noticed the “Percussion” menu.) Thanks so much for not one but TWO dang-near-immediate solutions, @jesele!

Note my edit about changing the percussion kit instead. Might have other implications, though. Then this Notation Option is needed.

Yup! I caught (and very much appreciated) that! Always love insights into the deliciously robust inner workings of Dorico prefs and settings! Thanks again!

De nada.
