Issue: Lost the ability to MIDI learn? Help please

Hello all,
I have been working on understanding how to set up VST and track Automation using a MIDI Remote surface for my AMC3 faders. I managed to get it all working, but I have now discovered that my ability to use MIDI learn has malfunctioned.

I am using a class complaint AMC3 three faders box, which has worked before.

Maybe setting up for automation using the MIDI remote surface has kicked out the MIDI learn?

I am set up correctly in ALL MIDI so my faders should be recognised, I see MIDI activity in the track.

I have tried clicking on MIDI learn in the VST (say the filter in Omnisphere, but also many other VSTS fail). I can see MIDI activity in the transport bar “input and output activity”. I have the tracks in read and write mode, I can see, in Omnisphere, a blinking box around the desired filter target, but nothing is being learned?

Can anyone suggest a solution please?

What I want to do is assign either an Automation Lane or a CC to my three hardware faders, as I choose, and override my common CCs (cc7, CC11 CC1) at will, say if I want to control a parameter of a synth.

Is this even possible?
