Issue - Multi-output VSTi Channel selection

Hello
Having a huge workflow problem with multichannel vsti’s such as Kontakt or Superior Drummer

I route my channels as usual but when it comes to mixing, selecting different outputs does not change the channel on the channel panel on the left, it always shows the first channel.
I can’t access my volume and inserts on the left panel anymore so I’m forced to go into the mixer window which is super frustrating.
it was working as intended in Cubase 12

any workarounds or hopefully fixes planned?

thanks

Hi,

You are right, the Channel panel works like this. You can use fader in the Inspector instead.

Sorry, what was the point in changing that?
I can’t access the inserts so I have to open mixer back and forth every time I need to add processing to a certain channel, it’s extremely annoying
(especially after it was working perfectly up until now)

if I want to add a plugin or change levels, the quickest way was to select an output and do all that in the left panel, whats the point of it staying on channel one all the time? makes no sense

if its possible to add request changing that back to how it was before, please do so

Hi,

The Channel is not the Inspector. If your want to have it as it was before, use the Inspector, please.

Hi kavinsky,
selecting a specific return channel of a multi-out instrument in the tracklist should show the content of that channel in both the track inspector and channel tab. This will be fixed with the next maintenance release.
Best regards

Hi,

I expect, you mean selecting the given automation track, right?

@kavinsky

Meanwhile, and as a workaround, use Kontakt and/or Superior Drummer as instrument racks : both the Inspector and Channel panes will be updated accordingly to your channel selection, this way.

Actually, I still don’t use any instrument track when a multi-outputs VSTi/External instrument is involved…

It’s the age old conundrum: Use Rack Instruments and have Return channels that makes sense or use Track Instruments and enjoy the benefits of import/export.

@Martin.Jirsak No, we’re talking about audio channels, not automation lanes.

very pleased to hear that! thanks!

oh I’m so used to instrument tracks by now. having modular setup so I can quickly import my custom instruments from progect to project, getting back to racks wouldn’t work for me personally

Hi,

There is no Audio Channel for the Instrument Track. I believe you are talking about the Audio Return Chanel, which is represented as an Automation track in the Project window.

Hmm….

this is actually helpful as a workaround until they implement left panel to do the same. the inserts and fader are off by default but switching them on did the trick.

EDIT - I was wrong - the fader in the inspector doesn’t follow the output selection. the fader always shows channel 1 only just as in the far left channel tab
at least the inspector shows different inserts, that should get me through to the maintenance update

Happy to hear that this will be fixed in an upcoming update.

The work around for now, albeit requiring an additional click for each and every multi timbral output, is to click the “Select Multiout Return channel” icon in the upper right hand corner of the left pane window. …again, for every single output.

Still not working in Cubase 13.0.30!

It works for me

Ok it is working if I create a NEW multi-out track. But it seems track created on the former version are not working.

Thanks!

Experiencing also.

I’ve reported this to Steinberg support with video proof and they’ve acknowledged it’s a bug.
