Hi all. I want to create a gradual crescendo with intensity markings along the way (p<mp<mf<f, etc.). However, I continue to run into major problems with the crescendos not expanding consistently. It seems there’s no rhyme or reason as to how the crescendo extends when I’m in Write mode and input the symbol, press enter, then use the space bar to extend. See attached video.
What happens if you advance the caret using arrows?
EDIT:
I’m pretty sure that Space advances the caret by the current note value.
Space extends the hairpin by the current note value, not by the rhythmic grid value, so for more incremental extension, select a shorter note value (even though you’re not inputting notes)
You started note input after selecting a dotted minim (half note), so therefore that’s what is selected as a note value automatically and when you press Space, that’s how far the caret advances.
You can press eg 6 after starting note input to switch the duration back to crotchets (quarter notes) and then advance by that duration.
Wouldn’t CTRL/CMD + ALT/OPT + Right Arrow increase the hairpin by the dynamic grid setting?
Perhaps that would be the OP’s better option.
Ahh! Thanks – didn’t realize that’s how it works.
Thank you!!
P.S. I didn’t see that information anywhere in the user guide nor on this site. Definitely worth adding!
Information about how the caret can be moved is here. I’ll make a note to consider replicating this clarification about Space in other places where it’s mentioned.
