Issues around editing midi and updates in the Score Editor

Love the new Score Editor but I’m seeing all kinds of inconsistent behaviour when editing midi. I presume when you edit any kind of midi you would expect the Score Editor to update?, but it seems very inconsistent.

For example, say I have a “Full Score” layout with a few tracks. If I copy midi using the range tool between two of those tracks, the score does not update.

Also, I’m also seeing an intermittent issue whereby sometimes you move a note in the midi and it does not update, other times it does.

I’m also seeing cases whereby you copy a whole midi part in the project view and it does not get added to the score (that is for a Full Score layout which I would expect to update - not the Sync view). You need to close and re-open the score for it update.

Then occasionally when you try to refresh the Score Editor using F6 to force an update, I see doubles of every note in certain parts only. The Score Editor seems to think the midi part is there twice and overlapped but it’s not. Closing and re-opening the score editor a few times makes it work (without me touching the underlying midi).

I think there are quite a few bugs to be ironed out in the midi/score integration…

Hi! Though I’m a fan of the old Score Editor, I appreciate every post coming from people trying to improve Cubase. Thus, seing that this is your first post on the forum, I would recommend that your last line in your post is added to your discourse profile.

Read the following thread to find out how:

It’s a tutorial made by our one and only @steve. No middle name. No last name. Just steve. :innocent:

It seems that the main underlying bug here is that new parts in a track aren’t updated in the current Layout in the score. I’ve logged this.

Can you explain the steps about using F6 to force an update? For me that opens the Automation Panel.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I’ve seen lots more of this since and it all seems to be the Score Editor not responding to updates in midi data.

I have F6 set to “Open Score Editor” so I end up closing the Score Editor and hitting F6 to try and get it to refresh.

However I have since noticed that I can consistently get it to refresh if I click on one of the layouts on the left. So I create a Full Layout and then click that when an update has not propagated to the score. That works even if that layout is already selected.

I’ve noticed that it starts off ok and all updates are propagated but then after a while updates in the Key Editor stop working in the score.

Another issue, perhaps related, is that occasionally I see two copies of the midi on the score when there is clearly only one copy of the part present. When I click on the layout for that it does not fix it and I have to start closing windows, moving around midi, etc for it to eventually refresh.

I’ve tried recreating these issues in a fresh project but I wasn’t able to make it happen. It seems to occur in larger projects when more midi parts are in use across multiple tracks. If it’s a clue, I tend to use 4 tracks (4 singers) and I copy lots of midi parts between the tracks, both full midi parts and using the range tool to take sections. It feels like this copying process is eventually triggering some of these bugs.
