Very much a pleb here… I am just getting started with Cubase and DAWs in general. I was watching the tutorials on Steinberg’s site and saw that one of the instructors was using a stylus and ‘tablet’ to interact with Cubase opposed to (or in addition to?) a keyboard and mouse. Anyone here go that route as well? If so, what device do you use and what are the main advantages for you?
Thanks!
There are a lot of ways to achieve the same thing with DAWs and it depends a lot on what you are doing and what your preferences are. If you’re starting out I would keep it simple in the beginning and just focus on learning the basics of the DAW.
You’re bound to run into situations where you wish there was a better or faster way to do something and then you can ask on the forum or search online. Over time you’ll then figure out how other people do specific tasks or jobs and how different approaches can benefit you.
Personally I use Nuendo for post-production (sound to picture) and to me it’s necessary to have at least 8 motorized touch sensitive faders so I use the Avid s1. With it I use their dedicated Eucontrol app that runs on my Android tablet. The two improve my productivity massively. But that doesn’t mean it’s the best solution for everyone of course.

Mattias, he means Mendel.
@davidhlevine , I don’t think there is anything special about this digital pen. I am a bit out of touch with things but wacom.com used to be the market leader for this kind of device. I think Mendel is using a different brand, though.
