Kernal Panic Log from scrolling TL Cu 10.5.5 / 10.15.2

zoomed in the TL a bit, scrolled it to the left a bit, beachball, recovered, scrolled back to right, beach balled and into kernel panic - yes the reboot / KP report kind, not a regular crash. Cu 10.5.5 is the only app causing problems. Using AMD 5700 XT on 10.15.2 which is just supported setup in Mac Pro 2010.

EDIT 1 : running higher screen res decreases time to crash. If I run screen at 3K res I can go maybe an hr before KP. if I run screen @ 4K its typically about 10 min to crash. ONLY Cu is causing problems.

EDIT 2 : Ran 10.0.50 with same project. outside of missing the multitap VST from 10.5, 10.0.50 seemed to be stable. no problems with zooming / panning TL.

EDIT 3: 10.5.5 Scrolling the MIDI editor TL to the left causes an almost instant kernel panic. 10.0.50 remains fine.

what did you guys change in 10.5.5 to cause the problems ?

After more testing and observing, 10.5.5 has a VRAM memory leak. If I go from 4k to 2550X1440 res it greatly extends out how long it takes for CB to kernal panic. If I monitor free VRAM, the entire 8GB of the card is used - 100% with CB. no other app does this. this needs to get fixed as its made 10.5.5 highly unstable.

Was this ever resolved? I’m having the exact same issue on my new Mac Pro 2019! Still no word from Cubase about this. I have the AMD Radeon Pro W5700X 16 GB. Maybe it has something to do with the entire AMD 5700 series of graphics cards combined with some error in Cubase 10.5 code? 10.5 works on my brothers MacBook Air with Catalina flawlessly. I tried 10.0 and it also seemed stable but the whole thing is still unsettling so I’m hesitant to keep the computer if Cubase in general just doesn’t play nice with this series of cards.

Hi, this should be fixed with the next macOS update 10.15.6.

Hi Arne,

I just tested it using the 10.15.6 developer Beta. It still crashes just the same. Is there anyway i can have some assurance this will be fixed when the final build is released. My return policy on my computer is running out, and i’m debating returning it for the same computer but with 580x if it meshes better with Cubase. Thanks

Sorry, I don’t have any more information than that it should be fixed with the next release. If you want to be on the safe side, exchange the machine and use the 580x GPU.

I"ve been run Cu 10.5.20 and 10.15.6 beta ok at least for this bug. Vega 48 running main display, 5700XT eGPU running 2nd and not been a problem
