The title should be self-explanatory. This would make editing with a touchpad easier, if functions requiring mouse clicks and pointing accuracy could be executed by a keypress. Especially when working with touchpad with only ‘tap to click’ type of functionality. Or just optional Commands for mouse left and right click which then could be assigned to keypresses.
Absolutely.
How this isn’t already available is beyond me.
@Mr_Master, the thread is 4 years old, but if you’re still looking for this, its Alt-X by default. The key command is Edit → Split at Cursor
Thanks, i managed to re-map the alt key to another hotkey using AutoHotKey, so all’s well that ends well!
that’s different to what the OP wanted though. In Reaper you can Split under the mouse pointer separate from the actual cursor. Just hold your modifier key and click where the mouse is and it will split, it’s a very fast way of working.

You’re right! I don’t know how I translated Mouse Pointer to (project) Cursor in my head.
It’s just Alt on its own that acts as a cut modifier when using the Object Selection tool.
Yes, but it would be nice if this wouldn’t require mouse clicking or trackpad pressing. Especially when working with laptop. E.g. I could just point with mouse, and press Alt-X, or just X, to split at that point. Indeed, like you can do in REAPER.
Currently Split at Cursor seems to work only at “Transport Playhead” Cursor position.
