Key Workflow Enhancements Needed for Cubasis 3 on iPad Pro-

Dear Cubasis Development Team, :slightly_smiling_face:

First, I want to express my appreciation for Cubasis 3. As a daily user on an iPad Pro (12.9-inch, 4th generation), I genuinely enjoy the product. However, I’ve encountered several workflow challenges that significantly affect my efficiency, and I believe addressing these basic but essential improvements would make a massive difference for many users like me.

Here’s my current experience when editing audio after recording, specifically around selecting and moving clips:

  1. Selecting Audio Files:

• Touch the select button (top left corner).

• Zoom out for an overview.

• Drag a selection square.

• Zoom back in to refine the selection because it’s imprecise.

• Apply the necessary operation.

• Deselect by finding an empty space and tapping it.

This process, when repeated for hours, becomes cumbersome and inefficient on a touch interface. Now, imagine if these improvements were implemented:

• Selection Tool Shortcut: A simple keyboard shortcut for the “selection” tool would streamline the process massively. It would allow users to instantly access the tool without navigating through touch menus repeatedly.

• Deselect Shortcut: A dedicated button or the ability to deselect by simply re-pressing the selection button would eliminate the frustrating process of finding empty space to clear selections.

• Select All to One Side (Left/Right) of a Track: This would allow users to quickly grab everything in one direction, saving time when adjusting or moving sections around—without needing to constantly zoom in and out for precision.

• Lock Clips/Regions: Adding a locking feature to prevent accidental movements or edits would provide peace of mind, especially on smaller touchscreens where accidental selections are more common.

These are standard features in most desktop DAWs, but they are even more critical for a mobile device like the iPad, where space is limited and finger-based editing is inherently less precise. As my iPad is my main work device, these changes would not only improve workflow but also reduce frustration and help me—and many others—get back to enjoying the creative process again.

Thank you for considering these suggestions. I hope to see these improvements soon so we can all continue enjoying the incredible potential of Cubasis 3.

Best regards,

Victor Balaguer

I love Cubasis too and have created many tracks for major recording artists without having to sit at my desk. Cubasis has been a game changer for me, with ability to have a recording studio when inspiration strikes ( which is never sitting at my desk staring at my computer). Your list here is great and I would like to add one request and hope to see it on a next update. It would solve a big issue and save enormous time, and thats the ability to add MARKERS, to be able to mark specific events, in the overall project. On large projects, to have to go hunt down specific events in a composition is painstaking and breaks my workflow every time. To be able to add a marker, even pick a color and have a pop up to add a quick note would solve this issue.

I have found myself having to go to other apps ( i.e., some podcast audio creation apps) that have his function when I am producing any podcast audio and without markers for these types of recordings Cubasis fails. This would seem like a an easy feature to add to the play timeline.

Thanks :pray:t2:

Hi afektapps,
I believe this feature is on the next update along with a tempo/time signature track, but until this update arrives this is what I do, please see my photo where I use track 1 as a empty midi track with the volume turned down in the mixer, or just select No Instrument, select your start and end track markers and double tap on that track, position the playhead curser to a bar that changes and tap Cut, you can mark this section with your own name and even colour them for quick identification, do this for all positions and you end up with a working marker track, I use this method on every project.
Hope this helps
Mike.

Hi @fixitmania53

Great workaround, thanks for sharing!

One small correction: a long tap on an event will set the L/R locators accordingly.

Best,
Lars

Hi Lars,
Yes of course, I forgot!

And to add, change the instrument to None to save resources. That’s what I’ve done in our project, Mike.
