This comes up very frequently: I enter a half note, then an eighth note, and then select and tie them. That’s fine, but if there is a number key shortcut, I will use it often.
Thanks.

You can press T while in note input, before entering the eighth note.
7FT5F.
Great! Thank you! (I assume the F is the pitch.)
This will be very helpful!
Yes, F is the pitch ![]()
Also (it’s sometimes useful), you can lenghten a duration while in note input. In your case, if your grid is set to eighth:
7-F-Shift+Alt+Right Arrow-5-F
Hang on…I must be doing something wrong.
I double-clicked in the staff to get the caret, typed 7F and a half-note F appeared. After that, “T” didn’t doing anything. I guess I don’t understand the sequence.
It’s expected that you dont see anything, just go on and you’ll see!
(actually, in the left column, you’ll see this after typing T)

Figured it out: it’s not one string. Enter the half note however (keyboard or mouse) then 5T (note name).
I’m used to type T5, but 5T works also!
