I’ve successfully used my Komplete Kontrol keyboard for many years with the various versions of Cubase. I had a few issues with version 8, but it’s been pretty smooth sailing since then. I upgraded to a 15 Pro from 14 a week or so ago, and now my MIDI controller doesn’t work correctly.
I know Cubase is receiving MIDI, as I can use the transport controls correctly.
I know the KK Mk1 is now out of date, but Native Instruments said that as long as you use the last driver version before they discontinued support, you can use it just like any other MIDI controller. That’s really all I want to do.
So far, I’ve….
Restarted cubase
Restarted my PC (many times actually, as I try different things)
checked that the 2 NI agents are running as they should be.
Reinstalled the driver for KK
Checked (and re-checked) my Midi settings in Cubase
Tried other combinations of midi settings
So far, nothing has budged!
Anything I might be missing, or do I need to dig a deep hole for my not-so-trusty-anymore midi controller?
My setup
Intel i9 3.5 GHz
64GB RAM
4TB of storage across several drives Steinberg UR44c interface
I’m sorry to hear that you have a problem with Komplete Kontrol Mk1.
I myself use KK S25 Mk1 in Cubase 15 without any problems
(Windows 11, Intel I9 13900K, Cubase 15 Pro).
These Mk1 keyboards are usually extremely reliable and equipped with an excellent Fatar keyboard.
It’s not entirely clear from your entry what exact problems you’re encountering.
Transport controls uses another MIDI port than keyboard.
If you are using the Mk1 Keyboard with Komplete Kontrol software make sure
you are using the latest Mk1 compatible version of KK software, 2.9.6.0.
Thanks. I’m using the older version of the driver as you suggest.
The problem is when I play something, nothing happens in the virtual instrument. if it has an onscreen keyboard nothing happens to it and no sound comes out. If I have midi notes recorded and I play the track then the virtual instrument sounds.
There is midi activity when I play as I can see it on the midi indicator.
Check if the “Komplete Kontrol MIDI” entry is listed in device manager under “Sound, video and game controllers” and if it is working properly (under Properties).
Check in the Cubase/Studio/MIDI Port Setup whether the Komplete Kontrol MIDI In port is visible and active.
Add instrument track (e. g. Halion SE) and select Komplete Kontrol as midi input.
If that doesn’t help, try testing the midi ports with MIDI-OX App.
Also, try switching the Komplete Kontrol Mk1 to MIDI mode multiple times (Press “Shift/Instance”), because sometimes the hardware Komplete Kontrol Mk1 Keyboard can get stuck in KK mode inadvertently.
1,2 & 3 didn’t help. I tried the Shift>Instance but the display just toggles on and off with no other noticeable effect.
I’ve now installed the MIDI-OX App and am trying to figure out how it works!
Play some notes on Mk1 Keyboard. If connection with computer is established and valid you can see those notes in Monitor window of MIDI-OX, as seen on this picture: Imgur: The magic of the Internet By the way, you said that the KK Mk1 Keyboard worked in previous versions of Cubase, but does it work now in previous versions after installing version 15?
Thanks! There is a connection established Midi Tests Cubase 15 - Album on Imgur I’ve also added a screenshot of my Studio setup for midi. I think it’s right but a second pair of eyes might spot something I’m missing?
Your MIDI Port Setup is OK, except it would be better to uncheck MIDI In Komplete Kontrol Daw-1 In ‘All MIDI Inputs’ option, but that is less important in this case.
Also, make sure that under the Remote Devices (Legacy)/Komplete Kontrol S-Series Komplete Kontrol DAW ports are selected as the MIDI In and MIDI Out ports, and Windows Services NIHardware Services and NIHostIntegrationAgent are running and being set to Automatic.
If all that doesn’t help, it remains to delete Cubase Preferences (In C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase 15_64) and eventually reinstall Cubase 15. Although I’m not too optimistic that it will magically solve the problem.
