I have hundreds and hundreds of track presets , which use Kontakt instruments , we’ve just gone from K7 to K8 , I’ve removed K7 and what is great is the latest version has been automatically loaded by Cubase… perfect .
Only problem is I get a dialogue warning me this has happened, there is no simple way to re-save that track preset without renaming it and finding where it was.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could go to your library of track presets? Select all the? Kontakt version you have and say convert to V8 .
I can see that if people are worried there’s a problem they wouldn’t use this function, but I have tested lots of my track presets and by removing K7 I’m letting Cubase load it in K8 things are working great …
Hi,
This is on the plug-in vendor’s side. Cubase (same as other hosts) recognises the plug-in by a specific ID. If the plug-in vendor decides to keep the ID, it’s still the same plug-in from the host point of view. This if what NI did in the past, so one could update Kontakt and always the newest version was loaded.
On the other hand, once the plug-in vendor decides to change the ID, the host doesn’t see any relation with the old plug-in.

Yes I understand that , as cubase can open with updated version and then you resave over the old version which then updates your db so next time it just loads .
It’s just a bit slow as there is no way to save a track without also renaming it and finding we’re you saved the original

100% agreed. I am going through the same dilemma at the moment updating TRACK PRESETS. I noticed my DISABLED TRACKS don’t bug me when ENABLING like the TRACK PRESETS do.
That’s interesting. I haven’t tried re-enabling disabled tracks in my template after switching into.K8
Just started the slow process of individual loading each K7 patch and resaving only to fine the k7 tag is not being updated to K8 even if you overwrite. But after saving it does load without giving you the warning so I guess it’s update but not showing this ???
Hi,
After saving the preset, could you try to reload in the MediaBay window to make sure the data are up to date, please?
just checked rescan disk and quick rescan does not fix it, but I just spotted refresh view which I must admit I haven’t seen before that does update the instrument type
this is still a mega slow and difficult job to do manually we really do need proper “save track preset” as well as what we have now which should be called “save track preset as”
Okay, I can confirm that after loading and re-saving instrument tracks that are converted from k7 to k8 , the plugin name is not 100% updated from k7 to k8 . but even with the old plugin name it does reload without asking the question to convert it. Sometimes it takes three attempts of Re loading the same instrument.(track preset.) then doing a re-scan then refresh view for the instrument track to show its correct plug-in name
I would suggest that we have an option when the dialogue appears to suppress any more dialogues for that project and add a re-save an update button so it doesn’t happen again in future projects
So today I found something interesting to add to this if you drag k7 presets into the k8 preset folder, with the plug-in open you can double click the k7 presets and they load without any warning dialogue.
However, if you try to load the same presets via mediabay (without K7 in the plug-ins folder) they will not load at all.
Which suggests to me that there should be a simple way to tell the media Bay asset it now belongs to the new aversion in this cast Kontakt 7 to Kontakt 8
