Kontrol MK3 and Cubase Midi Templates

Hello.

Has anyone figured out how to set up a NI Kontrol MK3 to be able to control Channel Quick Controls & focused quick controls.

There is an article from Nico5 Kind of explaining everything regarding VST instruments.

From what I read, You can manually create template to control VST Software.
I’m looking to control Cubase functionality. The 8 Knobs of the Focused Quick controls are more then enough… Anything beyond that I would just grab the mouse and start clicking…

If anyone has template or some kind of video instruction please let me know.
Have a great day.

The page you link to seems to outline all the steps. MK3 keyboards weren’t able to do this a month ago but midi templates added to them makes it possible.

Thanks.

I just noticed in the article that “Focused Quick Controls” are available to midi learn.
I will attempt this tonight, As I am not to concerned with mapping full VST plugins.

If I use a Instrument or effect plugin enough, I will usually map any of the available macros to the “Focused quick controls.” for quick changes.

So to make a long story short…
The Channel quick controls are for the the channel strip modules
The Focused quick controls are for most used parameters in a vst plugin.

hi,

watch this video https://youtu.be/8I0VwW0Mf_Q?si=6qBiN84ZM33p53_a

bye

Thank You.

I’ve watched it about 10 times since yesterday afternoon.
Jef is primarily taking about set up and VST instrument Mapping.
So… Creating a map for Serum or Sylenth1.

I’m looking for Cubase mapping functions.
Stuff like - all the various quick controls, opening and closing the key editor, channel overview (e), Media bay, the mixer. Vst instrument view.

Which I believe will not need the Remote control Editor.

The NI Kontrol MK3 has the worst Cubase DAW mapping and will only give you transport control and volume control on the mixer… Pitiful.

I own a Nektar P4, out of the box it controls everything in Cubase.
I own an Arturia Keylab 61. I had to make a midi remote template for the Arturia Keylab 61… But that only took about an hour to get up and running.

I believe Nico’s method will solve the issue.

yes, you are on the right track!

As you found out, Focus Quick Controls are the mapping targets you desire.

Assuming you map the 8 knobs of your MK3 into those 8 Focus Quick Control parameters, you’ll still have the opportunity to map the 8 buttons on the MK3 to other on/off kind of actions.

If you’re getting heavy into using the Focus Quick Controls, maybe you’ll want to map one button to Focus QC Lock State.

Toggling that on, keeps the current mapping active, even when you bring other windows to the foreground.

And then you can map the remaining 7 buttons on the MK3 to whatever else you feel like. Key Commands are good targets for buttons.
Especially, since via Key Commands you could also invoke an entire Key Command Macro or a Project Logical Editor preset you’ve made.

Thanks Nico!
It worked.
The first 2 pages of buttons an knobs are what I really needed.
I created 2 additional pages for any extra stuff I may want to add.
It took a bit of trail and error. But I believe I got the hand of it now.

Thanks again!!!

looks great! - have fun!

p.s. I haven’t mapped all the pages for myself either. But there’s no harm leaving them there for future ideas.
