Tech/Specs:
Cubase 14 Pro
Presonus Quantum HD 8 (USB-C)
Mac Studio M2 Ultra, macOS Sequoia 15.3.2
32 - 128 samples, 48 kHz, 32-bit float (would prefer 24-bit, but not available)
Issue:
I’ve been working with Cubase for quite some time now and I like it so much that it is my preferred DAW for a lot of things.
I have recently been trying to troubleshoot a latency issue when monitoring an audio track with a guitar VST on it (Guitar Rig 7 Pro, NDSP Gojira X as examples). For whatever reason, I have noticeable latency when monitoring. I have tried setting my latency down to 32 samples in Studio Setup, and it seems like it doesn’t recognize it. I do the same in other DAWs (Reaper, Ableton, Studio One, Pro Tools, Logic Pro) and it is either less noticeable or non-existent. In Cubase, Direct Monitoring is greyed out as well with this interface.
I’ve read that on macOS, Direct Monitoring is not supported because it’s CoreAudio and not ASIO, further baffling me as to why I have 5 other DAWs that recognize 32 samples and have basically no latency on input monitoring, but Cubase 14 Pro has some.
I did not have this issue on Cubase 13 Pro though, that I can recall.
Does anyone else perhaps have this issue? I’m trying to monitor with just one plugin on an audio track to ensure extremely little to no latency.
For added note, I just set up Control Room but have zero plugins on anything on project start. I just set up a blank audio track in mono, enable monitoring, and can hear the latency. Add a plugin like GR7 or Gojira X even, and they help emphasize the latency as exactly the same or maybe a few extra milliseconds more due to the processing.
