I’m trying to do a concert band piece and produce parts both for Euphonium (in C) and Baritone (Treble Clef, in Bb) from the same instrument (which is Euphonium in my project). So I duplicated the Euphonium layout and overrode the clef/transposition for the Baritone TC part and mostly everything is fine.
Except…flow 2 (and only flow 2) is in E major, so the Baritone parts ends up written in F# major. My preference would be to keep the Euphonium in E major and have the baritone without a key signature and show the sharps/flats as needed. For other B-flat instruments, I did that by creating a local key signature of Bb, which displays as C. But it seems that applies to the instrument itself and not just to the layout, at least the way I did it (which was to use the key signature popup and press option-enter after entering the key). Is there any way to get the key signature specific to the layout and not to the instrument?
Failing that, it would be okay if the Baritone TC part were in Gb instead of F#. But in the layout options for flow 2, I have checked and it definitely shows that “Prefer enharmonic equivalent key signatures with fewer accidentals” is enabled, but still the baritone shows that it is F# (I guess six flats for Gb isn’t fewer than 6 sharps, but in a band, people really prefer flat keys).
In any case, I’m left with F# and I would really like to find something to improve the situation (short of copying all the music to a new instrument and having to keep the two instruments in sync when there are changes). I guess producing a Euphonium part written in C and a Baritone in Bb is a possibility, but I wonder what confusion that will introduce if there is a discussion of keys (but then the clarinets really have no idea that the movement is in E either).
