Dorico Pro 6. I have a multiflow project such that only some flows are to have their titles displayed, so I’m using many flow heading overrides. It’s a multisegment mass. Now, if a beginning of a flow coincides with the top of a page:
if it’s a ‘titled flow’, I want the page number not to appear - the flow heading override is not turned on, so Dorico will start the page with the flow’s title, ‘Kyrie eleison’, ‘Sanctus’ etc.
if it’s not a ‘titled flow’, I want the page number to appear.
How can I achieve this? Layout options → Page setup → Flows → ‘Page number in header’ → ‘Show above flow heading’ achieves my second goal, but also makes the page numbers appear, of course, also for the ‘titled’ flows.
I can’t think of way to separate the different types of flow, given that they both could start at the top of a page.
There are Layout Options to use the “First” page template for any Flow that starts at the top of a new page. But if you also want some top-of-the-page flows to be different, then you’ll have to use a Page template change – so you’d need to be sure that the layout doesn’t move.
Won’t this make finding the page for the Sanctus in rehearsals a bit tricky…?

Unfortunately I cannot be sure at this point in my work that things won’t move, so I won’t be fiddling with page templates yet, since which flows happen to start a page might still change.
The number 1 is omitted by some publishers, but it’s just as common to see it. (There is a Layout Option to hide page number 1.) But for subsequent sections and pages, it’s entirely standard to show page numbers. Check your shelves for published scores. I guarantee that they will show the numbers.
As said, it’s going to waste time in rehearsals if you ask people to start on page 34, and it isn’t marked.
If you have preliminary pages, you can change the page numbering for the start of the music. But make sure that left hand pages are even, and right hand pages odd numbers!
